Behaviour Consultations.

All behaviour cases are seen on veterinary referral only, this means that the whole process of helping your dog is kept on a professional basis and that the vet is kept informed of everything to do with your dogs training. It also means that we can discuss the case and refer you back to the vet should any form of herbal or pharmacological intervention be required.

(Vets requiring further information please follow the link – Vet Info)

Referral is a straightforward process which simply requires you to obtain the Vets signature and Practice stamp on a form provided by us.

Prior to the consultation you will be sent a questionnaire, this asks for as much detail as possible about your dog, their daily routine and the specific problems you are encountering. The questionnaire should be returned 2-3 days before the consultation so as we have a detailed picture before we visit you.

Consultations usually last between 2 to 21/2 hours, although this may be longer if two or more dogs are involved. During the consultation your dog’s problems will be discussed in detail and the dog will be assessed using EMRA, a holistic approach that focuses on your pets emotions. EMRA stands for Emotional, Mood State and Reinforcement Analysis, which put simply:

• Analyses how your pet feels on a day to day basis - are they fully content with life?
• Determines how your pet feels when the problematic situation arises
• Looks at why your pet is continuing to perform the problematic behaviour

If any training is required then this will be demonstrated and you will be asked to have a go yourself so that we are sure you will be happy working on your own – you will also be supplied with training sheets so you have guidance to help you proceed. Please note that all training methods taught are based on scientific principles and learning theory, without resorting to punitive, unkind or aversive methods.

You will receive a full written report covering everything discussed at the consultation within 7 working days, this will be individually tailored to your dog and its specific problems - your vet will also receive a written report.

All behaviour consultations include unlimited phone and email follow-up.
As CAPBT Practitioners we follow a strict Code of Practice and are fully insured.

If you wish to contact us about a consultation please fill in the details requested on the ‘Contact Us’ page or phone the number supplied.
